Fuel For Discovering Sustainable Innovation

Welcome to Discovery Fuel’s

bethechangetshirt 292x300 Be The Change Project“Be The Change!” Project

This effort is about initiating a world-wide conversation about personal and collective change, and about the potential for creating a new global mythology that can help to transform our lives for the better. Through generative dialogue, we will unfold a deeper understanding of our purpose for change, initiate new stories about ourselves and the mythologies we live by, and consider alternative forms of innovation that enhance rather than deplete the world we are leaving for our children.

We invite you to join us on this journey toward sustaining planetary well-being by applying creative new approaches to design, innovation, and collaboration. Read the Seven Steps To Becoming The Change.

* Initiate important conversation about change
by wearing a ‘Be The Change!’ T-shirt

Here’s The General Idea & Goals ….

  • TALK-YOUR-WALK: The 1st goal of the ‘Be The Change!‘ project is to instill healthy world-wide dialogue and inquiry about the world in which we live, and how we humans are embedded within it’s ecology. We will do this by carrying or wearing symbols that engage question and conversation. That’s why we started a T-shirt line. If you have other suggestions of symbols that trigger people’s curiosity and inquiry, please let me know.
  • MYTH TRANSFORMATION: The 2nd goal of the ‘Be The Change!‘ project is to help us collectively awaken to the stories that we have told ourselves over the millennium. And how those stories guide our decisions, choices, and actions. The concept of a myth is neither negative or positive. It is merely the way we are in the world, mostly without knowing it. As we become conscious of our assumptions, our ways of being, and of others, we become awakened to something greater than merely the actions they generate. We can then enter a renewed realm of possibilities that will define and manifest a world that works better for all, rather than for just a few. We can choose this!
  • REALIZING CHANGE: The 3rd goal of the ‘Be The Change!‘ project is to bring forth sustainable innovation – new ways for designing and creating our cities, communities, and societies. Ways that enhance, rather than deplete, the earth-life-system, which we count on for every breath.

participants sm 300x200 Be The Change ProjectThrough group dialogue, inquiry, intentional questioning, and sincere curiosity about others views and ways of thinking, we want to build a collective mind made up of ourselves, our friends, families, acquaintances, and business associates without judgment (that’s the hard part!), or forcing our belief’s upon another. One of the ways to begin this process is to place something in front of another that triggers a question from them. Objects embedded with a message can do this, but you must stay conscious of the inquiry’s purpose.

question Be The Change ProjectDiscovery Fuel decided to use the phrase “Be The Change!” as a common theme message to open up a wide variety of questions, and thereby conversations. Using QUESTIONS that start with WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, HOW, and WHY are relationship-connectors that help to create a deeper engagement with others. For example, you can ask: What brought you to that conclusion or point of view? Why is this important you? Who else do you know gets exited about this idea? How can your vision be best implemented? Etc., etc. Minimize the use of questions that start with ‘Are’ or ‘Does’, etc., because these words reduce another person’s response to a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ and does little to deepen the dialogue.

Use of imagery and art is very useful to pull on our human psyches. Images such as the SustainThis T-shirt image of the people holding the planet. What is happening in this picture? What story emerges as you look at the characters who are holding up the planet. What does the picture’s shape represent? Simple but effective pictures like this are powerful tools for generating a deeper, more meaningful conversation with others. The key is to be sincerely curious about others that you come in contact with.

The ‘Be The Change!’‘ project plans to move into varied realms of action based on responses from you. So wherever you go (whether your connections take place in the real or the virtual realms (such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.), practice raising healthy, intentional, curious questioning of others. And then get back to me with how it goes. I encourage you to email me, or ping me via my social media sites.

Better yet, consider joining our unique online discovery communities, which is where most of our powerful conversations are based. See if any of the them get your inner juices flowing (see them at bottom of that page) and sign up.

And remember, to help with your own live conversation-making experiment, purchase a ‘Be The Change!‘ T-shirt, or other conversation-making products, by clicking on the rolling pics below.

I look forward to hearing from you. Together we can create an incredibly-generative global conversation that will change our world for the better ! :)

A story of conflict and healing in human interaction & collaboration

With compassion in his voice, he said (something like) you can be too sensitive. The energy with it was almost as if the conflict was not that big of a deal, and more in your mind; as if it wasn’t real enough. Since there [...]

Learning Communities

Vivian Nwaocha asked:  Advancements in e-Learning  Examining some trends in e-learning will enable us understand why and how e-Learning will continue to be a driving force in business and industry, as well as in the arenas of education. This will help us anticipate education and knowledge on demand. With e-Learning, the possibilities for getting knowledge [...]

Victor-Victim-Villain: The Obstacle That Keeps Us From Deep Collaboration

Imagine something that you’ve never imagined before. Or, if you have imagined what I’m about to say: Imagine turning your implicit idea into an explicit act for change.
Victor (hero)
First question:
How might this subject relate to the nightmare of a workplace that you are in?
My Point:
Most, if not all, of our decisions emerge through this [...]

Collaboration “IS” the New Government

My twine.com webbed a good one today. Although extremely simple, this video triggered a BIG insight for me.
Imagine a new definition of government. Rather than provider of fixes, it becomes a convener of ‘we the people’ and we generate our own solutions. This act shifts a STATIC ‘government’ institution into a DYNAMIC ‘governance’ system. The [...]

Sustainability as Whole-System Catalyst to New Forms of Innovation
Since the concept of ’sustainability’ is feathered into most future forms of innovation, I’d like to suggest a few pages below that list concepts of “Sustainable Innovation”.
